This was actually a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. My 3 year old little sister helped as long as her attention span would let her and that was fun. We peeled every broken crayon and then sorted into colors. If I ever do this again I will sort crayons by brand as well. They didn't mix well and the wax sat on top of each one {we had to color for awhile before we actually got color} It was super fun to watch them melt. We didn't even keep track of the time. They didn't want to come out so we stuck them in the freezer for 10 minutes and they came out perfect!

That's a great idea and I think would be fun! Good tip about not mixing the brands, too - we have tons of broken crayons that eventually just wind up in the garbage. I bet you could even melt them & pour them into candy molds for other fun shapes!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! I should try that with my boys!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have done this project and its so fun! I can't believe how occupied it kept my oldest to peel all the paper off the crayons and figure out which colors to mix in the muffin tin. He really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWe did this when I was a kid and if you put them in cupcake holders then they come out easier and it gives them a little design on the side. You can also use silcone molds if they are ovenproof and they would come out easier as well.
